Special Educational Needs & Disabilities
Aims
Gloucester Road Primary School values the contribution that every child and young person can make to the community and welcomes the diversity of culture, religion and intellectual style. The school seeks to raise the achievement, remove barriers to learning and increase physical and curricular access for all its pupils. On entry to school all parents and pupils contribute to a ‘profile’ outlining aspects of character and personality that can impact on learning.
All children and young people with SEND are valued, respected and are equal members of the school. As such, provision for pupils with SEND is a matter for the school as a whole. All teachers are teachers of pupils with SEND. The governing body, Headteacher, SENCO and all other members of staff have important responsibilities.
Gloucester Road Primary School also recognises that pupil performance and well-being are synonymous. Children cannot learn if they do not feel happy and safe, or if health problems create barriers to learning.
We follows Gloucestershire’s Graduated Pathway approach to supporting pupils with SEND. This ensures that every child receives the right level of support at the right time. Interventions and provisions are carefully planned and implemented using the Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle. This approach enables us to identify individual needs, set clear targets, deliver tailored support, and regularly evaluate progress to ensure the best outcomes for every pupil.
We believe that strong, collaborative relationships with parents and families are essential when supporting children with SEND. We are proud of the close partnerships we build, working alongside families to take a holistic approach to each child's development. By maintaining open communication and involving parents in every step of the process, we ensure that the support provided at school aligns with the child’s needs at home, creating a consistent and nurturing environment for their growth and success.

SEN PARENT FORUM
Gloucester Road Primary School hosts a SEND Parent Forum every half term, providing a supportive space to share advice, guidance, and build a sense of community. These meetings often feature external speakers, such as representatives from the Dyslexia Association and SENDIASS, offering valuable insights and resources. Dates for the forum are listed on our school calendar, and we warmly invite all SEND families to join us.
