Phonics

In September 2023 we adopted the Read, Write, Inc phonics programme.

The rationale behind this was our continued decline in phonics scores and a desire to. Meet each and every pupil's need, as opposed to a the previous whole class teaching approach that inevitably left some children behind. 

We believe that every child should leave school as literate learners who have a passion for reading for pleasure. We aim to do this by providing children with a systematic teaching of synthetic phonics from the outset. Our phonics scheme is introduced in the summer term of Nursery. As children move into Reception, writing opportunities will be linked to children’s learning within phonics.

As a result, the school phonics results have increased year on year.
