Eco-Council

This year our Eco-Council is excited to partner with Let's Go Climate Action to make our school a greener, more sustainable place. We’ll be conducting a comprehensive environmental audit focused on seven key areas: energy use, water conservation, food sustainability, waste management, procurement, travel, and biodiversity of our school grounds

In November, Paula from Let's Go came into our school and talked through all the different areas and what we are currently doing. It was lots of of fun and really interesting to reflect on our current practices.

Over the next year, we are going to be following Let’s Go Climate Action’s recommendations to implement positive changes throughout the school. Here’s a look at our plans:

  • Energy: We’ll analyse and reduce our energy consumption by promoting energy-saving practices across classrooms and common areas.
  • Water: Our goal is to minimise water waste through education and improved conservation measures.
  • Food: We’ll explore sustainable food practices, including sourcing local and eco-friendly food options.
  • Waste: Our focus is on reducing waste and improving recycling and composting practices to minimise landfill contributions.
  • Procurement: We’ll review our purchasing practices as a school to prioritise environmentally responsible suppliers.
  • Travel: We’ll encourage eco-friendly travel options, like walking, biking, and car sharing, to reduce our carbon footprint.
  • Biodiversity: We plan to enhance the natural habitats around our school to support local wildlife and promote biodiversity.

With the entire school community involved, our Eco-Council is committed to making measurable progress in each of these areas, fostering a healthier and more sustainable environment for everyone.

This term (Spring 2025) we are going to focus on Travel, and the eco-council have been surveying our classes to see how our pupils get to school and will be delivering a whole school assembly at the end of January. We are then going to look at how we can encourage our school community to use eco-friendly travel options and are excited to celebrate the Big Walk and Wheel Event by Sustrans in March 2025.
